MADE FOR THE FLOORFor stores, goods-in, quality and engineering teams checking serial-numbered units, assemblies or returned items against a list from a customer, a supplier or their own system.
A USEFUL STARTING POINT
Ticking serial numbers off a printout is slow and easy to get wrong
Long serial numbers look alike, and a number read by eye is easy to tick off on the wrong line. ManifestBench compares each scan with the list as exact text, so SN-0412-007 and SN-0412-070 never match each other and a leading zero is never dropped. Every observation is kept with its entry source and time, so the record shows what was scanned, typed or corrected, and in what order.
FROM QUESTION TO EVIDENCE
Three steps to a useful result.
- 01
Import the serial list
Choose the CSV, pick the serial number column and, if you like, a description column such as the model. Columns you do not choose are left out of the check and out of anything you save.
- 02
Scan each unit
Scan the serial number label with the phone camera or a keyboard scanner. A serial number that is not on the list shows as Unexpected ID and is listed separately; it never satisfies another entry.
- 03
Correct and report
If a scan was wrong, correct that observation with a reason. It stays in the history, and the unit goes back on the missing list until it is scanned again. Download the CSV or the A4 PDF report.
A CONCRETE EXAMPLETwo units missing, one that does not belong
A returns list holds 40 controller serial numbers, SN-0412-001 to SN-0412-040. After the delivery is scanned, ManifestBench shows 38 observed, 2 missing (SN-0412-017 and SN-0412-033) and one Unexpected ID, SN-0398-112, which is not on the list. The PDF report lists the two missing serial numbers and every observation with its time and entry source, ready to send back with the goods-in query.
USED IN PRODUCTION
From a checked list to a connected despatch.
ManifestBench checks one list of IDs at a point in time, on one device. Two SmartFACT services handle work that repeats every day: booking the courier from the work order once the goods are packed, and checking what goes into each kit before it is packed. Both are in early access, with scope agreed at onboarding.
ParcelOffice
When the checked cartons go out by courier, ParcelOffice books the shipment from the work order with two scans: the job, then an approved parcel preset. It sends the courier labels to the bench printer through PrintStation and returns the tracking details to your factory software. Approved plain English rules recommend or choose the parcel.
KitProof
ManifestBench confirms which carton IDs were seen, not what is inside each carton. When a carton holds a kit of parts, KitProof turns approved plain English component rules into each kit's expected parts and quantities, then checks every scan against that plan before the kit leaves the bench.
BEFORE YOU START
A few practical answers.
Can I check serial numbers without a scanner?
Yes. Use the phone or tablet camera, or type each serial number. Typed entries are checked in the same way, and the history records how each value was entered.
What if the barcode holds more than the serial number?
ManifestBench compares the whole decoded value with your list as exact text. If a label's barcode holds a prefix or several fields, the list needs exactly that value. BarcodeBench shows what a barcode contains.
Can I stop and carry on another day?
Yes, if you choose Save on this device: the check stays in this browser until you delete it. Download a project backup to keep a copy or carry on from another device. Without saving, closing or refreshing the tab loses the check.
What are the current limits?
ManifestBench checks distinct IDs against one imported list. It is not a despatch, shipping or stock system: there are no courier bookings, carrier manifests, SKU quantities, carton contents, stock levels or links to your order system, and a scanned pallet ID never marks the cartons on it as seen. A finished check records which listed IDs were observed; it does not prove that a vehicle was loaded or that goods were accepted. One person controls a check at a time, on one device. Imports are UTF-8 CSV with a header row, up to 5 MiB and 10,000 distinct IDs, with up to 10,000 observations per check. IDs are matched as exact text, so the list must hold exactly what each barcode contains. XLSX import, RFID and emailing results are not supported.
What happens to my data?
Your check stays in this browser. A new check is kept in memory until you choose Save on this device, so closing or refreshing the tab loses unsaved work. The manifest is read in the browser and nothing is uploaded: there is no account, email or upload step. The camera decodes labels on your device, and camera images are never stored or sent. Google Analytics is optional and loads only after you accept; it never receives IDs, file contents, file names or check results. Use Analytics settings to change your choice; see /privacy/.
